Authentic reissue of the Gibson SG Standard from 1964
With the Gibson 1964 SG Standard Reissue with Maestro Vibrola Cherry Red, the Gibson Custom Shop is launching an authentic reissue of the coveted '64 SG Standard, which is inextricably linked to the development of modern blues and rock. Built using historically accurate manufacturing methods and materials, the 1964 SG Standard Reissue equipped with Gibson Custombuckers delivers first-class vintage sounds, while the pleasantly strong neck profile and nitrocellulose finish convey the authentic feel of a vintage original. Naturally, Gibson completes the 1964 SG Standard Reissue with the obligatory Maestro Vibrola tailpiece, an ABR-1 bridge and classic Kluson vintage-style tuners.
The Gibson SG Standard Reissue with Maestro Vibrola Cherry Red is an authentic reissue of the '64 SG Standard, offering an authentic vintage feel in sound, handling and look.
The mahogany neck glued with hide glue and long neck foot convinces with comfortable playing characteristics.
Historically correct construction
For the construction of the 1964 SG Standard Maestro Vibrola, the Gibson Custom Shop naturally relies on historically correct manufacturing methods and materials to realise authentic vintage vibes in sound and feel. Beneath the thin nitrocellulose finish, which promises free resonance development, a one-piece mahogany body and a glued mahogany neck are used, whereby the gluing with hide glue and long neck tenon promises a particularly lively sound character and long sustain. The pleasantly strong "Authentic '64 Medium C" neck profilealso promises comfortable playing characteristics on the 22-fret rosewood fingerboard.
While the Gibson Custom Bucker and hand-wired circuitry deliver authentic vintage sounds for blues and rock, the Maestro Tailpiece produces shimmering vibratos.
Custom bucker with Alnico III magnets
The Gibson Custom Shop chose two Gibson Custombuckers as pickups for the 1964 SG Standard Reissue with Maestro Vibrola. Equipped with Alnico III magnets, the pickups turn out to be authentic replicas of the legendary PAFs from the Golden Era on the guitar amplifier and promise both warm clean sounds with vocal quality and fat overdrive sounds that respond to the playing style with airy dynamics. The pickups are controlled via a hand-wired circuit with high-quality CTS potentiometers and authentic Black Beauty capacitors, which allow particularly harmonic adjustments to the treble via the tone controls.
Kluson tuners with historically correct "Single Line/Double Ring" optics guarantee precise and stable tuning of the '64 SG Standard Reissue guitar.
Authentic hardware with Maestro Vibrola
Last but not least, Gibson equips the 1964 SG Standard Reissue with Maestro Vibrola with authentic hardware. The Maestro Vibrola Tailpiece, which gives the instrument its name, naturally serves as the tailpiece, which can be used to create shimmering pitch modulations to tastefully embellish melodies and chords. The classic ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, whose holding pins engage directly in the body wood for optimum sound development, also guarantees optimum adjustment of intonation and string action. Behind the historically correct nylon saddle, Kluson Single Ring/Double Line tuners also ensure precise and stable tuning of the electric guitar.
