With the Gibson 50th Anniversary 1968 Les Paul Custom Ebony, the Gibson Custom Shop celebrates the 50th anniversary of the re-release of the Les Paul Custom in the summer of 1968. Accordingly, the strictly limited electric guitar has the historically correct specifications of this model, which with its powerful sound and endless sustain has become the benchmark for blues and rock sounds. These include the one-piece mahogany body with maple top and the mahogany neck glued with hide glue and long neck foot, whose ebony fingerboard carries the typical block inlays. Two Gibson '68 custom humbuckers on the guitar amplifier also provide the authentic vintage sound, whose powerful and vocal qualities have not become legendary among blues and rockers for nothing. Last but not least, the Gibson 50th Anniversary 1968 Les Paul Custom features an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge with nylon string riders, an aluminum stop bar and classic Kluson Waffleback tuners.
Of course, the Gibson Custom Shop manufactures the 50th Anniversary Les Paul Custom according to the historical specifications of 1968, the best conditions for a powerful sound with endless singing sustain create. Accordingly, the one-piece mahogany body carries a two-piece maple top, while the mahogany neck is glued with hide glue and a long neck foot. The "Medium-Chunky C" profile, taken from a vintage original, offers a high degree of playing comfort, so that every song on the ebony fingerboard goes off by itself.
As pickups for the Gibson 50th Anniversary Les Paul Custom Ebony, the Gibson Custom Shop Luthier selected two '68 Custom Humbuckers that, with Alnico II magnets and a moderate output, proved to be authentic replicas of the sought-after '60s originals. The 1968 Les Paul Custom guitar amp is a convincing example of an authentic vintage sound that skilfully supports both singing blues licks and heavy rock riffs. The pickups are managed via a hand-wired circuit with individual volume and tone controls from CTS and a 3-way toggle switch from Switchcraft. Authentic Black Beauty capacitors also guarantee smooth treble roll-offs.
Last but not least, the hardware of the Gibson 50th Anniversary Les Paul Custom Ebony corresponds in every detail to the original model from the end of the 60s. Accordingly, the strings are held on the body by a classic aluminium stop bar, from where they are led over the Tune-O-Matic bridge invented by Ted McCarty, whose nylon riders support the warm sound. On the headstock, Kluson Waffleback tuners guarantee precise and stable tuning.
