The Gibson Doves in Flight, with its meticulous craftsmanship and carefully selected woods, showcases decades of experience and the unmistakable artistry of the traditional US manufacturer from Bozeman, Montana. Thanks to its solid construction and hand-scalloped bracing, the acoustic guitar responds instantly to every note. At the same time, the large square-shoulder dreadnought body delivers warm, resonant bass frequencies, making it ideal for vocal accompaniment and intricate fingerpicking. The narrow fingerboard ensures exceptional comfort, allowing even complex fingering patterns to be played with ease. The guitar comes with a sturdy case and a Gibson accessory kit.
The structure of the top
The guitar features a fine-grained Sitka spruce top, enabling quick, articulate response for every note. Combined with the large body and scalloped X-bracing, this produces warm bass, clear mids, and shimmering trebles. The guitar’s namesake is a large tortoise pickguard adorned with detailed engravings and premium abalone inlays. The evenly grained top is framed by a delicate multi-ply abalone binding, perfectly coordinated with the multi-stripe soundhole rosette, creating an elegant transition to the other components of the body.
Back and sides
A standout feature of the Gibson Doves in Flight is its evenly grained curly maple body, beautifully highlighted by a refined cherry finish. The high-quality wood complements the tonal palette with rich, warm bass that remains full-bodied and powerful even at lower velocities. The symmetry of the folded back is accentuated by a fine cream-colored multi-ply binding, contrasting elegantly with the wood’s color. An elaborate backstripe runs between the two halves of the back, harmonizing with the bindings and the intricate figure of the curly maple.
The three-piece maple neck with its rounded profile is perfectly integrated with the overall design of the acoustic guitar, providing excellent grip across all 20 frets. The elegant ebony fingerboard features 16 of the 28 Doves-in-Flight inlays, reflecting the guitar’s “custom store” level of craftsmanship. A slim 40 mm bone nut, together with a compensated bridge inlay, ensures precise intonation across the full 648 mm scale length. Golden Gotoh keystone tuners with engraving guarantee accurate tuning, while the strings anchor in an ebony bridge adorned with additional inlays. A generous inlay between the tuners further enhances the guitar’s refined appearance and overall value.
