Traditional mahogany construction

Following the guidelines of the iconic Les Paul construction, both the body and the long neck heel glued neck of the Gibson Murphy Lab 1954 Les Paul Custom Ebony GH Ultra Light Aged are made of solid mahogany. The classic top carving of the body is finished with seven layers of black and cream-coloured layers, while the ebony fretboard also features cream-coloured binding and elegant mother-of-pearl block inlays.

Gibson Alnico P-90 pickups in soapbar design

In contrast to many later versions of the Gibson Les Paul, the Gibson Murphy Lab 1954 Les Paul Custom Ebony GH Ultra Light Aged features a pair of two Gibson Alnico P-90 pickups. The two single coil pickups in a soapbar housing represent the sound of the first Gibson electric guitars like no other pickup design and impress with their distinctive, penetrating tone, which is somewhere between crystal-clear single coil and earthy, warm humbucker sounds. The underlying wiring is naturally hand-wired and uses oil paper capacitors for organic roll-offs of the tone controls.
