The Gibson Theodore Standard Ebony electric guitar at a glance
The Gibson Theodore Standard Ebony revives an iconic design that spent decades hidden in the Gibson archives. Based on a 1957 sketch by former Gibson President Ted McCarty, this strikingly original model was first introduced as a limited Custom Shop run in 2022 and is now available as part of the Gibson USA line-up. Blending vintage roots with modern craftsmanship, the Theodore Standard delivers an eye-catching aesthetic, outstanding playability, and timeless Gibson tone. Each guitar includes a Gibson hardshell case.
The Gibson Theodore is based on a 1957 concept by the Gibson president at the time.
Theodore Body & Slim Taper Neck
One of the defining features of the Theodore Standard is its distinctive double Florentine cutaways, which provide generous access to the upper frets and contribute to the guitar’s sleek, retro-modern styling. The solid mahogany body offers warm, resonant tones, while the mahogany neck features Gibson’s classic Slim Taper profile – a favorite among players for its fast, comfortable feel. The 22-fret rosewood fingerboard adds a smooth touch to every note, and the iconic ‘Scimitar’ headstock completes the standout design.
Gibson '57 Classic Humbucker
Equipped with a pair of Gibson '57 Classic humbuckers, the Theodore Standard captures the sought-after sound of late-‘50s P.A.F. pickups. In the neck position, the '57 Classic delivers warm, mid-focused tones that are perfect for expressive rhythm work and melodic leads. The bridge position features a '57 Classic Plus with extra windings for higher output – ideal for punchy solos and riff-driven playing. The electronics are hand-wired and include Orange Drop capacitors, ensuring smooth treble roll-off and dynamic tonal control.
