In order to integrate immigrant and refugee children into the school curriculum as quickly and effectively as possible and to provide them with a good education, knowledge of the German language is absolutely essential. To make this teaching as efficient as possible, Ursula Kerkmann has developed a method that combines singing with language support. It has been known for a long time that music and singing are good teaching aids and ensure that content is memorized quickly and sustainably.
Thus, Helbling Verlag Lieder zum Ankommen has 80 songs sorted by 15 thematic word fields that teach solid German skills using acoustic, visual, motor, rhythmic, cognitive, and sensory stimuli. In addition, the book contains tips for teaching with regard to handling, lesson planning and group organization of refugee children, which pick them up exactly where they are and help them to adapt to their needs. A CD with 61 audio examples helps to familiarize the children with the songs, while 77 illustrated picture cards provide a vivid visual background to the German lessons.
"Just mentally going through most of the songs reveals how much enjoyment and benefit learners can derive from them. [...] Overall, this new publication, which has tremendous practical content for integration situations, reveals a magnificently thoughtful, competent, and detailed dedication to subject and content." - Stella Antwerp, Chorzeit, 11/2018
