With the Mutant Rimshot, Hexinverter expands its analog Percussion lineup with a module dedicated to Rimshot and Clave sounds. The Rimshot is clearly inspired by the TR-909, while the Clave takes its cue from the TR-808 – but the Mutant Rimshot goes far beyond these classics in terms of sonic flexibility. The module offers High and Low rimshot variants and the oscillator pitch can be adjusted and modulated via control voltage. Placed between the oscillator and the filter is an analog distortion circuit which adds bite and harmonic content to the sound. The filter itself is a resonant multimode design with selectable lowpass/bandpass/highpass characteristics. The internal decay envelope and the CV input can be used to modulate the filter allowing for animated and evolving tones. Through the external input (VCF In) it is possible to add another sound source such as a noise generator to the oscillator, rather than replacing it. An Accent input enables dynamic triggering, making the Mutant Rimshot ideal for expressive performance or sequencing.
