With the Ibanez Axe Design Lab j.custom RG8870-SDE Sodalite, Ibanez presents a fresh take on the prestigious j.custom RG series from Japanese production. Large resonance chambers in the alder body reduce the guitar’s weight while giving it a pleasantly airy tone. The familiar design with wide cutaways and the fast "RG j.custom Super Wizard" neck makes it easy to execute advanced playing techniques. Thanks to the versatile HSH pickup configuration with DiMarzio pickups, the j.custom RG8870 delivers a wide palette of sounds from vintage-inspired cleans and overdrive to modern high-gain distortion. Ibanez completes the package with a tuning-stable Lo-Pro Edge double-locking tremolo and precise Gotoh tuners.

The Axe Design Lab j.custom RG8870 was designed for both comfort and sonic performance. Large resonance chambers lighten the alder body, making the guitar easy to handle even during long gigs, while adding an airy, subtly acoustic character to the tone. The five-piece maple and wenge neck features a flat "RG j.custom Super Wizard" profile with just 17 mm of wood under the first fret, allowing even complex techniques to be executed smoothly. A premium AAA curly maple top and the intricate tree-of-life inlay on the Macassar ebony fingerboard further enhance the guitar’s elegant appearance.

An HSH setup with PAF 36th Anniversary, True Velvet and The Tone Zone pickups from DiMarzio promises a variety of guitar sounds.

Flexible sounds thanks to DiMarzio pickups

On the amp, the HSH DiMarzio configuration offers a wide sonic range, from classic vintage tones to modern high-gain sounds. The neck PAF 36th Anniversary humbucker delivers an authentic vintage character with responsive dynamics. The bridge Tone Zone humbucker provides powerful drive and razor-sharp articulation, while the middle True Velvet single coil adds bell-like clarity. A five-way blade switch selects the pickups in traditional Ibanez combinations, with volume and tone controls for shaping the sound. An additional mini-switch allows coil-splitting of the neck and bridge humbuckers for rich single-coil tones.
