The J & D ABG-5c Natural 5-string acoustic bass offers a stage-ready range of features and comfortable playability at an incredibly affordable price. The large jumbo body with cutaway and the full-size 34" long scale length (864 mm) promise a particularly sonorous and powerful sound image, which is transferred with natural dynamics and warmth to amplifiers or recording equipment by the integrated Fishman Presys pickup system. Last but not least, the slim "C" neck profile along with the cutaway in the body offer butter-soft playability up to the highest positions, whereas four die-cast tuners ensure that the J & D ABG-1c Natural is tuned precisely and stable.
For a particularly powerful sound, the J&D ABG-5c Natural features a full 34" long scale length (864 mm) and a large body in jumbo format. The combination of a laminated spruce top with laminated mahogany back and sides promises a particularly warm sound with a deep bass foundation and silky treble range. Thanks to the cutaway in the body, the slim maple neck in the comfortable "C" profile can be played effortlessly up to the highest frets.
With the high-quality Fishman Presys pickup system, the J & D ABG-5c Natural is perfectly equipped for use on stage and in the recording studio. The pickup impresses with a particularly natural reproduction of the bass sound that captures warmth and dynamics in detail. A classic 2-band EQ is provided for adjusting the sound, whereas the phase switch helps to suppress unwanted feedback. The J & D ABG-5c Natural can also be tuned quickly and accurately with the integrated tuner of the Fishman Presys.
J & D ABG-5c Natural I got this bass for small gigs and because I wanted to have something that can be played unplugged.
I am very satisfied. When played with a heavy pick, bronze strings and with a somewhat high action, it makes a decent acoustic instrument and it has enough volume to be heard clearly with a small group of other instruments.
It wont shake the ground but that wouldnt be a realistic expectation for a so small instrument (though for a guitar its pretty big and it took me a couple of days to get used to holding it properly without it slipping away).
When plugged in, it can of course play with any number of instruments and the sound is good. The on-board eq is quite useful and the "phase" button actually helps quite a bit with feedback. Still on a big gig with lots of monitors speakers and mics Id prefer one of my electrics, to avoid dealing with feedback. This would apply to just about any acoustic bass guitar, though.
The setup was a bit low for unplugged use when I got it, but that was easily fixed, with the included allen key.
Also the endpin on mine is screwed in with a slight angle to the body but thats not really a problem, since it steady and the fault isnt visible unless closely examined.
Finally, the springs in the battery compartment where vibrating a bit on some notes, so I placed a bit of foam on the battery cap to keep things tighter and the sound was gone.
Other than that, the fretboard is fine and the construction is solid. And its a pretty instrument, too.
So, to sum it up, if you want an acoustic bass guitar, this is a great choice. It is cheap, it can produce sufficient volume unplugged and it is good when plugged in, too. And it is cheap.
ABG-5c is a good buy for anyone who is beginning to learn or play bass, has an average sound for amateur recording but serves perfectly to start.
Good price-quality ratio.
Rather Fragile, handle with care.
fast shipping in perfect condition, I am satisfied.
Its a great acoustic 5 str. Bass. I am using it in recording some music gigs, is a perfect bass for such jobs. This Bass is a fine instrument to play and will be used as acoustic bass sound out in the streets by a trio and a quartet playing for the shows.
Very satisfied and pleased with the excellent Acoustic Bass for a little price. Thanks
Unfortunately we live in a world where, at any given day, you can go out and buy a guitar with this quality for 40 or 50 euros. You will not be sorry to take that to the street and let it catch some humidity, for sure...
That never was a reality for the bassist, no. When I bought this one a few years back, it costed around 220 euros.
It's great for practice, after playing this for a week you get your hands on an electric bass and it all seems easy, and it's great for fun, but it really doesn't sound well on a professional setting (either studio or live).
Now it's at around 170 euros, i still recommend it for the lack of options.
Its really a BIG bass guitar. Maybe you can have difficult finding case or bag for it.
Workmanship is good, but not perfect.
Strings were set too low so they were buzzing on frets. I had to raise them. Very playable instrument, good sound (not too loud as you might expect regarding big body) Good sound even on amplifire. I havent tryed it yet on stage, so I dont know how it will behave (feedback?).
Summary, very good bass for that money.
