The Kali Audio SM-5 is an active 3-way studio monitor designed to meet the highest demands in critical mixing and mastering situations. As part of the Santa Monica series, it combines the proven 3-way coincident architecture with the latest DSP technology and high-quality drivers - for an accurate sound image, impressive dynamics and minimal distortion.

3-way coincident architecture for maximum precision

At the heart of the SM-5 is the innovative combination of a 5-inch woofer, a 4-inch midrange driver and a 1-inch metal dome tweeter, with the midrange and tweeter arranged coaxially. This design ensures perfect time alignment of all frequency ranges and eliminates the off-axis lobing often found in conventional 2-way systems. The result is a precise, consistent stereo image in which every detail is clearly placed.

Technology that makes the difference

The SM-5 impresses with technology that makes the difference: with a frequency range of 39 Hz to 28 kHz (-10 dB) and a maximum sound pressure level of 117 dB, it delivers impressive performance for any studio situation. The 150 watt Class D power amplifier ensures powerful and precise reproduction. The bass driver is specially optimized for high Output with minimal distortion, while the mid range driver not only covers its own frequency range with ease, but also acts as a waveguide for the tweeter. The metal dome tweeter is designed to avoid annoying resonances and the high frequencies sound particularly clear, finely resolved and silky. With a recommended listening distance of up to four meters, the SM-5 is ideal for both close and mid-range applications.

Thanks to the integrated DSP, the SM-5 can be precisely adapted to any studio environment.

Connections and interfaces

The SM-5 is equipped with various connections to fit seamlessly into different studio setups. A balanced XLR/TRS combo connector is available for analog signals, while digital audio data can be fed in and looped through via AES/EBU via BNC. The integrated RJ45 socket enables network connection for control and configuration via the Kali Control Panel software.

Design for the best sound conditions

The SM-5 features a front-firing bass reflex design with optimized port geometry to minimize airflow noise. The specially shaped baffle reduces diffraction artifacts and supports a natural, unadulterated sound image.

For maximum flexibility in placement, the SM-5 offers prepared mounting points on the top and bottom of the cabinet. This makes it easy to attach to wall or ceiling brackets - ideal for studios with limited space or special listening positions. Compatible brackets with the 4.25 x 2 inch hole spacing allow for a robust and secure installation without compromising acoustic performance.
