With a length of 166 cm, the Kawai GL-30 belongs to the family of grand pianos and, between the GL-10 and the GL-50, forms the golden mean of the GL grand piano series, which is characterized by an exceptional sound, robust construction and very precise tuners.
A Millenium III action is used in all instruments in the GL series. The secret of the longevity of these tuners lies in the combination of patented ABS, carbon and conventional woods, which achieves unprecedented stability and strength, which is of course also noticeable in the playing feel. A larger cross-section and a key length based on that of a concert grand ensure even and more controllable playing, allowing the maximum sound volume of the grand piano to be exploited - from pianissimo to fortissimo.
Kawai grand pianos are known above all for their expressive sound and dynamic balance and are appreciated by many pianists for their smoothness. The great strength of the instruments lies in the pianissimo, i.e. in particularly quiet passages which come into their own particularly well on the conical soundboard made of solid spruce with very narrow annual rings. Only solid maple or beech bridges are used for the GL-30 in order to transfer the string vibrations to the soundboard and produce the fullness of sound that Kawai is known for.

The strength of the construction of all Kawai GL grand pianos is designed for a particularly long life. The action beam is made of durable extruded aluminum to provide extra strength and stability. Tuning pins made of 11 layers of cross-laminated North American maple and tuning pegs made of carbon steel with a special nickel alloy ensure strength and tuning stability. The keyboard bed is made of durable hardwoods and is additionally reinforced by a steel rail.
