These stands are very solid and of excellent quality. This was my second K&M 25600 so I have already been using one for couple of years and they are great. I used to own stands from cheaper makes with boom (for a vocal mic at my piano - like Elton John but without the good voice!) The booms would always gradually lower due to the weight of the mic and I ended up having by experiment with counterbalances etc. However these K&M stands do not need any kind of counterbalance. I use a standard SM58 mic and it stays firmly in place.
