It is directly inspired by and connected to the Keiki Kohola Project, a nonprofit focused on safeguarding whale mothers and their calves. Martin supports the initiative through both design and donation, making this guitar a truly meaningful statement piece for environmentally minded musicians.

The solid Sitka spruce top brings clear highs and dynamic response, while the solid Sapele back and sides add warmth, punchy mids, and rounded lows. This combination creates a balanced tonal character that suits everything from delicate fingerstyle to assertive strumming – ideal for singer-songwriters seeking authentic expression and dynamic range. Beneath the top, Scalloped X-bracing enhances resonance and volume while preserving tonal clarity, providing excellent projection and sensitivity. Tried and tested for a comfortable playing experience

Playability is key to the DSS Biosphere II’s appeal. The mahogany neck, a time-tested tonewood in acoustic construction, is shaped to Martin’s Modified Low Oval profile with a 44.45 mm nut width – a comfortable fit for a wide range of playing styles. Paired with a smooth ebony fingerboard, the neck allows the fretting hand to move fluidly across all 20 frets, making complex fingerings and long sessions a breeze. Tuning and intonation are equally reliable: nickel open-gear tuners offer smooth, precise adjustments, while the compensated bone saddle and ebony bridge ensure long-term stability and accurate pitch across the full 645 mm scale length. The result is clean, balanced intonation and a consistently comfortable string action.
