A true Pawn Shop relic of the late 1980s, the Maybach Jazpole 63 Variotone 60S is more than ready for the experimental sounds of grunge and noise rock. Maybach's loving interpretation of this belatedly famous nerd of electric guitars focuses less on switches and knobs than on the complete range of sounds of two Amber Variotone 60S humbuckers in neck and bridge position. Last but not least, the Vintage Black Aged Finish creates a classic feeling and authentic traces of paint from years of waiting in the attic.
With the traditional body construction of the early sixties, the Jazpole remains faithful to its contemporaries and, with an open cutaway and contours for arm and stomach, provides surprisingly good playability in all positions of the 22-flush rosewood fingerboard. However, Jazpole also improves some of the teething troubles of its ancestors by using a fixed Tune-o-Matic plus Stopbar instead of Floating Trem for rattle-free and voice-stable performances.
Two Amber Variotone 60S humbuckers from German pickup guru Wolfgang Damm do the sound conversion of the Jazpole on the amplifier. The two double coils in the aged nickel cover not only deliver tight and hearty rock sounds, but are also tuned to each other in terms of output and resonance frequency and have a powerful and harmonious effect in the intermediate position. The control of the two pickups is classically managed via 3-way toggle as well as master volume and master tone.
