The Meinl CHYY24 Chau Tam Tam Yin & Yang 24" is a bronze tam tam gong that has been engraved with the Taijitu, the Yin & Yang symbol. The gong is made in China using the traditional techniques that have been used for gong making for centuries. The special bronze alloy used in the process gives the gong a wide tonal range, from a sustained hum, to a deep rumble, to loud explosive crashes. They are versatile and harmonize well with other gongs and instruments. A matching mallet and sleeve are also included.
The Meinl Sonic Energy Wind Gong Yin & Yang series is marked with the Yin-Yang symbol, the so-called Taijitu. Yin and Yang are probably the best known terms from Chinese philosophy, with the white half representing Yang and the black half representing Yin. Yang stands for the sun, brightness, warmth, active giving and masculinity, whereas yin describes the exact opposite direction, i.e. darkness, calmness, passive giving, femininity, the soft. Although both forces are opposed to each other, they are at the same time related to each other and cannot exist without each other, like heaven and earth
