The Mesa Boogie California Tweed 2:20 Combo 1x12" is a guitar amplifier that stands out for its simplicity and rich, organic tone. Inspired by the legendary Tweed circuits of the 1960s, it features two 6V6 tubes in the power stage, while the preamp is driven by five 12AX7 and one 12AT7 tubes. The California Tweed combines a straightforward design with exceptional user comfort and tonal flexibility. With its classic vintage look, the front panel features just two inputs (Low and Normal), a Gain control, a traditional 3-band EQ for Treble, Mid, and Bass, a Presence control, Master Volume, and a Multi-Watt switch that lets you reduce the output power from 20 watts to 10 or 1 watt. On the rear panel, you’ll find three speaker outputs (2x 4 Ohm, 1x 8 Ohm), a Reverb control with footswitch jack, and a fully buffered effects loop.

Simple design, full tube warmth

Despite its minimalist layout, the Mesa Boogie California Tweed 2:20 Combo 1x12" delivers the unmistakable warmth and dynamics of a full-tube amplifier. The preamp runs on five 12AX7 and one 12AT7 tubes, while the power section uses two 6V6 tubes to produce up to 20 watts of output. The Multi-Watt control allows you to switch between 20, 10, and 1 watt modes for different playing environments.

In 20-watt mode, the amp operates in a 2x6V6 Class A/B pentode configuration; in 10-watt mode, it runs as a 2x6V6 Class A/B triode with fixed bias; and in 1-watt mode, it switches to a single 6V6 pentode with cathode bias. This smart design maintains consistent tonal quality across all power settings, preserving the lush, vintage-inspired tube warmth that defines the California Tweed’s character.
