The Windkey WK-37 from Midiplus combines the typical playing technique of a classic melodica with that of a USB master keyboard featuring integrated sound generation.
When used as a melodica, you can choose between the short mouthpiece or the blow tube to play the 10 sounds via the built-in speaker or headphone output. When using the mouthpiece, you hold the instrument in front of your chest, much like a recorder or clarinet; the handle on the back provides extra support. If you prefer the blowpipe, you can choose whether to play the Windkey WK-37 on a table or sling it over your shoulder using a (separately available) guitar strap.
The instrument is powered via the USB-C socket (as an alternative to 3 AA batteries) and can be used as a USB MIDI keyboard with a DAW on a computer. The breath control can be switched off if required, in which case the Windkey WK-37 functions like a standard master keyboard with velocity-sensitive keys.
The 10 sounds – E. Melodica, Accordion, Harmonica, Reed Organ, Synth Lead, Strings, Sax, Clarinet, Flute and Recorder – form a solid selection that allows for authentic and genre-spanning playing and practice. The sounds are complemented by a reverb effect, which can be activated at various levels. Thanks to its simple and, above all, entertaining operation, the instrument is also well suited for children.
