The Orange Guitar Butler is a versatile two-channel guitar preamp in a compact pedal format—perfect for guitarists who craft their unique tone using a pedalboard or seek a practical solution for direct pickup with a natural, authentic sound. Featuring a vintage-inspired Clean channel alongside a juicy, dynamic Dirty channel, its analog JFET circuitry delivers a wide palette of tonal nuances, all easily shaped via separate tone controls for precise sound tailoring. In addition to the serial effects loop, the Guitar Butler offers an amp output and a balanced XLR output complete with speaker simulation, making it a complete and convenient solution for both stage and studio setups.

Dual channel JFET circuit

The analog circuitry of the Guitar Butler preamp is built around JFET transistors, delivering a warm, harmonic sound with tube-like characteristics. The Clean channel features a distinctive vintage voicing that forms the perfect foundation for glassy, distortion-free tones and works exceptionally well when combined with upstream effect pedals. Its sound can be finely shaped using a 3-band equalizer and a gain control for precise tonal adjustment. On the other hand, the Dirty channel offers a versatile range of overdrive textures – from a smooth, creamy overdrive to a rich, juicy distortion – depending on the gain control’s setting. This makes it ideal for bringing every riff or solo to life with expressiveness and power. The distorted sound can be further tailored using the Gain knob, 3-band tone controls and Presence pot, while the dual Level knobs allow for seamless switching between two volume levels – perfect for rhythm and lead playing.

Practical connections

Last but not least, Orange equips the Guitar Butler Preamp with practical connectivity options designed for seamless use both on stage and in the recording studio. The serial effects loop allows easy integration of external effect pedals or processors into the signal chain, while the amp output sends the preamp signal directly to guitar amplifiers or power amps. Meanwhile, the balanced XLR output features a high-quality speaker simulation, enabling direct recording or live use with an impressively natural and authentic sound character.
