The instrument consists of a pair of hand drums of contrasting sizes and timbres. This instrument is played with various parts of the hand to produce different sounds. This instrument was designed to allow more complex sounds and rhythm structures to be produced to accompany certain types of Indian vocal music. 

The smaller drum of this pair is wooden, and the larger is metals, both with thong tensioning. This instrument is supplied complete with padded carry bag and seat rings
