Polaxis Emy is an oscillator module for modular synthesizers in Eurorack format. The module is a speech synthesizer based on an emulation of the well-known TMS5220 speech chip from the eighties. For speech generation, there is a microBUS port on the back that can be connected to various speech chips. Thus the most different voices and languages can be generated. The files are played back in LPC format (Linear Predictive Coding) as in the eighties. At the same time, some voice parameters such as stretch, bend, pitch or energy can be modulated via CV. With an OLED screen and SD card slot, users can customize their own sound landscape.
The TMS5220 is an improved version of the TMS5200 chip and was found in various arcade slot machines of the early and mid-eighties. Among them are classics like Star Wars The Return of the Jedi, Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back or Road Runner. Such chips can also be found in pinball machines such as Time Machine or Magic Castle.
