The RME Digiface USB is a 66-channel USB 2.0 audio interface. This compact, portable digital audio interface features four optical ADAT/SPDIF inputs and outputs and a high-quality analogue headphone output (6.3mm jack).
Based on the legendary HDSP Digiface, a triple ADAT I/O interface with headphone and PCI connectors, the Digiface USB simplifies the connection via USB 2.0 and does not require an external power supply, whilst adding another optical input and output – this results in a total of four TOSLINK inputs and outputs (64-channel ADAT I / O @ 48 kHz) and an analogue headphone output.
Each individual optical port can be used as either ADAT (up to eight channels) or SPDIF (stereo) whilst the inputs automatically adapt to the incoming signal format so the outputs can be individually switched between ADAT and SPDIF. At 192 kHz, eight channels can be used as inputs and outputs via four SPDIF or ADAT. With a small size and weight, as well as a power supply via USB, the Digiface USB is an extremely versatile device.
Compact, robust and extremely useful in extending the lifetime of an older mixer that uses ADAT interfaces as it enables me to enhance a laptop bought for video editing to handle digital audio supported by stable and good quality ASIO capability and the availability of TotalMix FX which I have on my main audio system means I can retain standardised configuration / interfaces.
