Frequency-selective distortion and filtering
The FB-14 MkII mono from SND is a classic among analogue effects devices. The fixed filter bank in 19"/1U studio format with monophonic signal path is a combination of filter and equaliser with 14 almost perfectly tuned frequency bands with fifth intervals. Each band has a control range of +/- 20dB, allowing for subtle to drastic sound modifications. The four transistors in the signal path, two of which are genuine germanium types, also contribute to this, giving the processed audio signal a tube-like sound character. The SND FB-14 MkII mono owes its excellent audio values to the exclusive use of the highest quality components in Class A circuit technology. Hand-wound coils, specially manufactured ALPS rotary controls and a great deal of manual work contribute significantly to this. The sound qualities of the FB-14 MkII are a unique selling point. It gives digital sounds and drums in general more presence and intensity, transforms static sounds such as drones or pads into expansive, detailed soundscapes, and gives every signal that passes through it a touch of class and expensive silkiness. Above all, the FB-14 MkII is able to isolate sound components in a way that most mixing console EQs cannot.
