The SPL Venos is a next-generation stereo bus compressor. Developed on the basis of the sonically revered variable bias tube technology, Venos combines the warm vintage character of historical compressors with innovative hyper-compression modes. The result: a tool that turns any mix bus processing into an experience of size, depth and impressive presence.

More than just a tube compressor

The remote cutoff tube of the Venos forms the basis of its bias-controlled compression and significantly shapes the character of the sound processing. SPL extends this traditional concept with two powerful hyper-compression modes: Focus and Punch. Both modes significantly change the control behavior of the compressor and open up sonic possibilities that go far beyond classic tube compression.

While Linear, Modern and Vintage are based on analog side-chain filters, Focus and Punch deliberately set new accents. They generate an energetic, exceptionally dense compression and create textures that cannot be categorized in conventional ratio models.

Precise control for every situation

All essential parameters such as input, threshold, bias, attack, Release and Output can be precisely adjusted via gridded potentiometers. Even small adjustments have a noticeable effect, regardless of whether gentle compression or characterful tube shaping is required.

The various rectifier settings (germanium, silicon or LED) further influence the temporal behavior of the signal and allow additional tonal fine-tuning.

The hyper-compression modes: Focus & Punch

Focus - firm grip, lively sound

The Focus mode provides intense compression that still retains depth and openness. The signal gains size without losing transparency - ideal for mix busses, vocals or any source that needs to be even more present in the room.

Punch - energy you can feel

Punch goes one step further: it gives the music a physical force that is hardly known from classic variable bias compressors. The compression is powerful, punchy and emotionally immediate - without ever becoming harsh or unpleasant.

Flexible side-chain control for creative freedom

With the Ext SC mode, Venos offers a fully-fledged side-chain insert with balanced XLR send/return connections. This allows external Equalizer or completely independent signals to be used to control the compressor. Frequency-selective processing, pumping effects, rhythmic compression.

Sound shaping in the final step - AirBass & Tape

Two of the popular SPL presets are available in the audio signal path:

AirBass provides more foundation and silky brilliance with gently boosted highs and lows.
Tape emulates a classic tape machine cut in the treble - warm, round and pleasantly musical.

These EQ presets sit behind the compression and are perfect for rounding off a finished signal in style.

120V technology - uncompromising performance

As usual with SPL, Venos is also based on the legendary 120V technology. With an internal operating voltage of ±60 volts, the device offers a dynamic range and headroom that far exceeds that of classic studio electronics.

Premium housing, durable components, Made in Germany

With a black anodized 4 mm aluminium front panel, solid rotary knobs and a robust steel housing, Venos is not only a real premium model in terms of sound, but also in terms of feel. Many components are deliberately assembled using THT technology to ensure the best possible sound quality.

As usual, production takes place in Niederkrüchten on the Lower Rhine - a statement of quality, durability and genuine craftsmanship.
