The SSL Nucleus DAW Controller and Audio Interface is designed to be the core of the modern professional studio set-up. The Nucleus DAW controller puts control back at the fingertips by providing two banks of 8 motorized faders, with dedicated mute and solo buttons, assignable pots and control buttons, scribble pads and 10 bar LED level meters on each channel. The SSL Nucleus is far more than a high quality control surface though, with the inclusion of an ultra-high quality 2-in/2-out SSL Audio Interface with USB connection and SuperAnalogue audio circuitry, the Nucleus controller is an exceptionally desirable all-in-one solution. It is the two pre-amps in particular, that make the Nucleus the ultimate console for modern professionals. The pre-amps are made to the same high specification SuperAnalogue design as the SSL 9000K mixing desk and are a near invisible presence in the signal path. The two pre-amps utilise XLR Female / 1/4 Jack combo sockets and provide a 20dB pad, phantom power, hi-Z switch, high pass filter and phase inversion.
The monitoring section of the SSL Nucleus console is comprehensive and provides more pristine SuperAnalogue circuitry to deliver a very flexible solution. The Nucleus monitoring matrix provides two additional XLR inputs and an 1/8” stereo mini jack input (for easy connection of phones and iPod style devices) so that you can route additional sources into the two headphone outputs and master output (where you also have the option of both a balanced SuperAnalogue XLR output or an unbalanced -10dB RCA output).
The overall design of the SSL Nucleus mixer is beautifully conceived, with a sturdy feel and good ergonomic design, the SSL Nucleus is just the right size to provide maximum efficiency of space and ease of use. At a little over 70cm wide it will easily fit on most workstations, but equally, it is big enough to be housed as a console on a dedicated desk and take centre stage in your studio.
