For decades, Solid State Logic has been synonymous with professional studio technology, which has been used on countless successful productions worldwide. With the SSL 1, the British manufacturer brings this expertise to a compact USB-C audio interface for musicians, producers, podcasters and content creators. High-quality analogue circuits and modern 32-bit converters make the SSL 1 a powerful control centre for recording, streaming and music production.
At the heart of the SSL 1 is a specially developed microphone preamplifier with up to 63 dB gain. Thanks to its exceptionally low self-noise and a dynamic range of 113 dB, voices, acoustic instruments and microphones of all types are captured cleanly and in great detail.
The switchable 48-volt phantom power supply enables the operation of condenser microphones, while the integrated high-pass filter reduces interfering low frequency and low frequency components even before recording. A five-stage level display provides quick and precise control of the input level at all times.
A special feature of the SSL 1 is the integrated Legacy 4K circuitry. It is based on the characteristic sound features of the legendary SSL 4000 mixing consoles, which have been heard on countless productions for decades.
At the touch of a button, the signal is given additional harmonic overtones and a musical boost to the treble. Vocal tracks appear more present, guitars assert themselves better in the mix and synthesisers gain liveliness. The result is a sound with more depth, energy and analogue character.
For audio conversion, SSL uses modern 32-bit converters with a maximum sampling rate of 192 kHz. As a result, even the finest details are precisely captured and reproduced.
The high resolution ensures transparent stereo imaging, a clean depth gradation and outstanding dynamics. Whether recording vocals, acoustic instruments, electronic music or voice recordings.
In addition to the microphone input, the SSL 1 has a switchable instrument and line input. Guitars, basses, synthesisers, drum machines or external effects devices can be connected and recorded directly.
The high-quality Neutrik XLR and jack connections ensure reliable signal transmission in everyday studio use. In addition, the DC-coupled outputs are able to send CV signals to compatible modular and hardware synthesisers, allowing the interface to be integrated into modern hybrid setups.
With its triple stereo loopback function, the SSL 1 offers extensive routing options for streaming, online teaching, podcasting and content creation. Audio signals from browsers, video conferencing software or other applications can be flexibly integrated into the signal flow.
The practical mix control enables low-latency direct monitoring and allows continuous mixing between the input signal and playback from the DAW. This allows recordings to be monitored conveniently and without disruptive delays.
A high-quality, high-current headphone amplifier with generous power reserves is located on the front. It delivers sufficient level for precise monitoring when recording, producing and mixing.
Together with the balanced monitor outputs and a dynamic range of up to 116 dB, the SSL 1 provides a reliable basis for critical listening decisions in the studio.
The SSL 1 is powered directly via USB, making it ideal for mobile production environments. Alternatively, the interface can be powered via an external 5-volt power source or a power bank.
Thanks to Class Compliant support, the interface works with macOS, iPadOS and compatible mobile devices without additional drivers. A dedicated ASIO/WDM driver is available for Windows, which enables stable performance with low latency.
The comprehensive SSL Production Pack is included in the scope of delivery. The software collection includes a variety of plugins, virtual instruments, samples and production tools from renowned manufacturers such as Harrison Audio, Antares, Native Instruments, IK Multimedia, Loopcloud, Ableton Live Lite and other partners.
This means that a complete production environment for recording, music production, mixing and content creation is available immediately after installation.
