The Sandberg California BassTheWorld Signature Bass MN Black Matte is based on the California TT4 Masterpiece bass that viewers know from countless videos and basslines on Gregor Fris’ popular BassTheWorld YouTube channel. While the ash body and the slim maple neck with C profile deliver the typical Sandberg playability, the BassTheWorld Signature Bass combines two Kloppmann single coils with a traditional passive electronics layout to produce high-class bass tones with versatile character for almost any genre and playing style. At Gregor Fris’ request, the hardware setup is completed by a Gotoh 203B-4 brass bridge alongside the proven Sandberg machine heads.
The construction of the California BassTheWorld Signature Bass follows the specifications of the passive California TT4 Masterpiece bass that the BassTheWorld founder has been playing since 2011. The comfortably shaped body is made of European ash, supporting the classic tonal character of the four-string bass. The flat C profile of the six-ply maple neck ensures excellent playability across the entire range of the 22-fret maple fingerboard.
For his BassTheWorld Signature California model, Gregor Fris selected two single-coil pickups from the German manufacturer Kloppmann. The perfectly matched set combines a Kloppmann JB61 single coil in the middle position with a Kloppmann Special Bridge single coil. Together they deliver high-quality bass tones through the amplifier, covering an impressive range from powerful low-end punch to tight, assertive mids. This makes the four-string a true all-rounder suitable for a wide variety of musical styles. A traditional passive circuit with individual volume controls for each pickup and a master treble roll-off allows precise shaping of the instrument’s tone.
Naturally, Sandberg equips the California BassTheWorld Signature Bass MN Black Matte with durable hardware designed to perform reliably on professional tours and in studio environments. At Gregor Fris’ request, a Gotoh 203B-4 hardtail bridge is installed. With its brass base plate and saddles, the bridge enhances the sustain-rich and lively tonal character of the instrument, while its adjustment options allow precise intonation and comfortable string action. Behind the zero fret and nut, Sandberg machine heads ensure accurate tuning and dependable tuning stability.
