The Shure VP88 is a stereo condenser microphone for professional recording studios, outdoor and news production, radio and television applications. The special: It combines two capacitor capsules in one housing so that mid/side-stereo images of signal sources can be recorded. One capsule (centre) with cardioid characteristic points forward and detects the axially incident sound, while the second microphone capsule (side) with figure-of-eight characteristic picks up the laterally incident sound. The internal MS matrix provides 3 settings for different sizes of the stereo base. However, the matrix can also be skipped if an external matrix is used or the stereo image is to be varied during post-production.
