The Strymon Olivera Vintage Oil Can Echo:
With the Strymon Olivera Vintage Oil Can Echo, a piece of audiophile history returns in the form of a modern effect pedal that faithfully captures the legendary sound of the Tel Ray Oil Can Echoes from 1959. These unique devices used a small rotating can of conductive oil instead of magnetic tape to create a warm, dark and modulating echo that sits somewhere between delay and reverb. For the first time, Strymon has fully reconstructed this concept digitally, capturing all the nuances of the original with a newly developed DSP engine. The realistic algorithm produces everything from soft, syrupy warble to dense, reverb like textures. Features such as stereo processing, variable playback speed, reverse playback and detailed modulation that reacts organically to the input signal round out the pedal, allowing seamless integration into modern setups.
The heart of the oil can: Class A JFET preamp
A Class A JFET preamp delivers natural dynamics with ample headroom, resulting in a rich and organic sound. Additional features include MIDI control, an expression input and a USB C connection for firmware updates. The delay time ranges from approximately two hundred to eight hundred milliseconds and can be adjusted between short, long or combined repetitions using the Heads switch. Controls for mix, rate, intensity and regeneration allow the creation of both subtle retro delays and dense, atmospheric walls of sound. The result is an effects unit that perfectly combines the mechanical magic and organic character of vintage oil cans with modern studio technology. A true highlight for sound tinkerers, ambient enthusiasts and vintage gear fans alike.
