Product information - SYNTHROTEK MST Expressor

Eurorack module for connecting two expression pedals

The MST Expressor module from Synthrotek offers the possibility to connect two expression pedals to a modular synthesizer. The field of application is of course enormous and ideally suited to modulate and control all conceivable parameters during performance. The polarity of the connected pedal can be changed or the signal can be muted via a toggle switch.

Performing synthesizer sounds with external controllers

When screwing and patching the sounds on a modular synthesizer, two hands are just enough - how can you play and control sounds to express your performance? External controllers are a good solution here, whereby besides standards such as modulation wheels or joysticks, expression pedals can also be very helpful. The MST Expressor is a practical module with the possibility of connecting even two expression pedals, and once connected to the Expressor, a standard controller pedal can be used to control any synthesizer function, as the module converts the control signals from the pedals into the control voltages suitable for the Eurorack;

Tips for the use of expression pedals

A classic application is controlling the filter cutoff frequency, while you have your hands free for e.g. keyboard and joystick or the step sequencer while playing... Even if you want to control the waveforms with a waveshaper, for example, an additional expression pedal can be useful, as this example can result in multiple possibilities of sound control that want to be controlled simultaneously. Whenever two or more parameters together make the desired sound shaping interesting - e.g. to articulate the interaction of oscillators, ring modulator and filter - external controllers such as expression pedal are an extremely useful and simple addition to a modular synthesizer.

MUSIC STORE VM 18 L Expression Pedal
The VM 18 L Expression Pedal is a universal expression pedal thanks to its switchable polarity.

Which expression pedals fit the Synthrotek MST Expressor?

In principle, the control voltages of the MST Expressor can be controlled via all standard expression pedals - recognizable by the stereo jack plug of the pedal. An inexpensive recommendation is the MUSIC STORE VM 18 L Expression Pedal, which is compact and therefore takes up little space and can be used universally thanks to its switchable polarity.
