The shells are made of 6 layers of poplar (8 mm) and have a balanced sound with excellent bass.

The shells of the Tama Imperialstar are made of 6 layers of poplar wood and are therefore 8 mm thick, creating a voluminous, warm sound full of balance. The Precision shell ridges are cleanly milled on the top and bottom and provide even head contact, which is a prerequisite for the drum's clean sound. The hoop on the Bass Drum is made of wood, which makes the sound warmer and drier. The Black nickel shell hardware is lightweight and harmonises well with the wrap finish. On the Imperialstar Drum Set, this is fully bonded to the drum and promises a long service life and easy-care handling.
