The 312ce 12-Fret features a solid Sitka spruce top paired with layered sapele back and sides, delivering a rich blend of warmth and clarity that suits a wide range of genres and playing styles. The V-Class bracing – a revolutionary Taylor innovation – enhances both volume and sustain, providing a more open and dynamic tonal character. This modern internal architecture helps the guitar resonate more efficiently, expanding its harmonic range and improving overall tonal balance.

Compact body

Designed with playability in mind, the 12-fret Grand Concert body offers a more intimate feel and excellent comfort, especially for fingerstyle players and those with a lighter touch. The shortened 632 mm scale length reduces string tension, making complex chords and fast runs easier to play. A Venetian cutaway provides seamless access to higher frets, while Taylor’s precision tuners ensure long-lasting tuning stability and smooth performance.

Ebony & Koa: Sustainability at Taylor Guitars

In response to deforestation and the depletion of slow-growing hardwoods like ebony and koa, Taylor has taken significant steps toward sustainable sourcing. Their efforts include ethical harvesting, reforestation initiatives, and investments in long-term conservation. This commitment reflects Taylor’s belief that great guitars should not come at the expense of the planet’s future.

Sustainable ebony cultivation in Cameroon

As ebony is particularly finger-friendly due to its hard, supple texture, it has long been the preferred choice for the production of fingerboards. Its attractive appearance is also extremely popular for bridges, headstock overlays, bridge Pins and Bindings. However, the high demand and the flourishing black market outstripped the stocks, so that ebony ended up on the Red List of endangered species in 1994. In addition, only the deep black heartwood, which makes up only a fraction of the tree, was used, resulting in a disproportionately large amount of waste in production. To protect the forests, Taylor has been working with the Crelicam Wood Mill in Yaoundé, Cameroon, since 2011 to promote controlled consumption by processing waste products.

Siglo Tonewoods Project

The koa acacia population has also suffered heavy losses over the last 20 years. Unsustainable forestry and overexploitation have led to a decline that can only be halted through proactive action and reforestation. This is why Taylor Guitars, together with Pacific Rim Tonewoods, founded the Siglo Tonewoods project, which aims to rebuild the Hawaiian jungle. This is a large cultivation area for koa acacia and other species, which enables the use of koa wood on a controlled scale.
