The Vintage Reissued VJ74BLK Gloss Black from Trevor Wilkinson’s workshop impresses with its authentic vintage design, excellent price to performance ratio and versatile sound suited to almost every style of music. This four string bass features a solid alder body and a 20 fret jatoba fingerboard with traditional dot inlays, while two single coil pickups deliver a wide range of inspiring tones. High quality hardware from Wilkinson completes the instrument.
Inspired by the classic electric basses of the 1970s, the Vintage Reissued VJ74BLK Gloss Black is built from alder and finished in a rich gloss black. The maple neck is attached with four screws and a neck plate, and carries a jatoba fingerboard fitted with 20 frets and authentic dot inlays. With its well balanced C profile and a 38 mm nut width, the neck provides excellent playing comfort and smooth handling.
The electronics feature two Wilkinson WJB single coil pickups developed by Trevor Wilkinson. These classically designed pickups, each with four pole piece pairs per string, produce a transparent sound with a fast attack. Individual volume controls allow the signals of both pickups to be blended, offering a wide range of tones for genres from rock and funk to blues and pop. The sound palette ranges from a deep, full low end when the middle pickup is soloed to the dry, punchy clarity of the bridge pickup and all combinations in between. A treble control allows further shaping of the tone.
The hardware on the Vintage Reissued VJ74BLK is equally impressive. A Wilkinson Standard Bass bridge with four adjustable saddles ensures perfect intonation and accurate string placement. The long scale strings, measuring 34 inches or 864 millimeters, run to the headstock where Wilkinson WJBL200 tuners guarantee precise and stable tuning. A historically styled tortoise pickguard completes the instrument, enhancing its authentic vintage look.

Vintage are not as well known as fender or gibson but they make strong, heavy, good quality instruments with good pickups. My 2nd vintage purchase
