The Digital VCA MkIII from WMD is a dual VCA whose CV and attenuation levels are controlled digitally. This allows the amplitude to be changed as soon as a zero crossing occurs, resulting in click-free level changes. Trigger mode means that the VCA is only updated when a trigger is received. By adding a noise source for each side, the module can be used for very fast sample & hold applications. When no input signal is present, 5V is normalized to the attenuator, resulting in an S&H signal of 0-5V. In bipolar mode, the voltage range extends from -5V to +5V. Both VCA sides have a bipolar mode (polarizer) with which the signal can be inverted when a negative CV is received. As a result, this corresponds to ring modulation. With the zero-crossing detector, this can produce some very wild waveforms that a classic ring modulator has not yet been able to achieve.
