The Warm Audio WA-CX24 is a premium stereo large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone that impresses with both sonic authenticity and versatility. The WA-CX24 faithfully recreates the iconic “stereo 24-style” microphone, a staple in world-class studios for over five decades. Its open, airy, and natural sonic character makes it ideal for capturing room ambience, ensembles, acoustic instruments, and vocals. Whether used as a drum overhead, room mic, or for orchestral recordings, it delivers lifelike stereo imaging with remarkable depth and dimension.
At its core are two custom CK12-style capsules, precision-crafted from solid brass and fitted with gold-sputtered 6-micron Mylar diaphragms, delivering the distinctive warmth and clarity expected from high-end tube mics. Two T14 output transformers from TAB-Funkenwerk (USA) enhance the signal with smooth highs and a well-balanced midrange. A carefully selected 12AY7 vacuum tube further contributes to the mic’s silky, organic sound – essential for demanding stereo applications.
One of the WA-CX24’s standout features is its rotatable upper capsule, which – combined with individual polar pattern switches for each capsule – offers exceptional versatility. Each capsule provides nine selectable polar patterns: cardioid, omnidirectional, figure-of-eight, and six intermediate positions. This design enables sophisticated stereo techniques like XY, Blumlein, or Mid-Side with ease, allowing precise adaptation to any room or source.
This configuration allows for optimal tuning in virtually any recording scenario – from intimate solo performances to full-scale ensembles. Independent capsule control opens up creative mixing opportunities, such as blending direct and ambient sound for a highly natural sonic image. The WA-CX24 comes complete with a full suite of high-quality accessories: a robust power supply unit with a 115V/230V voltage selector, a custom shockmount, a decorative wooden storage box, and a rugged tweed flight case. A particular highlight is the inclusion of a Gotham GAC-9 premium cable from Switzerland. This specially engineered 9-pin tube mic cable reduces phase shift and parasitic interference common in lower-grade cables, resulting in clearer highs and improved stereo separation. With top-tier shielding and premium materials, it ensures both long-term durability and superior audio fidelity.
