It doesn’t set out to replace a studio deck, nor does it aim to be a digital recorder. Instead, it makes cassettes mobile, stylish and contemporary once again. I like the combination of the aluminium casing, classic controls, rechargeable battery, Bluetooth and genuine recording function. What’s more, the WE-001 feels pleasantly focused. It doesn’t do everything, but what it does suits the format perfectly. The main limitations are the lack of a built-in speaker, limited Bluetooth compatibility with certain earphones, and the inherent sound limitations of the cassette format.
