The Clavinova CLP-885 B from Yamaha is a state-of-the-art digital piano that stands out thanks to its attractive, timeless design and first-class sound. The 88-key Grand Touch keyboard features a linear-weighted hammer action with counterweights. The keys are finished with ivory-like coatings (Ebony & Ivory Touch), providing the player with a more grippy surface and significantly reducing slippage. Furthermore, the white keys are made from real wood. The fold-down keyboard cover protects both the keyboard and the internal components from dust and dirt when not in use. On the inside of the keyboard cover is a music rest that can comfortably hold several sheets of music and, of course, a tablet. Using the Smart Pianist and Rec’n’Share apps – available free of charge for Android and iOS smart devices – makes operating the CLP-885 even easier and adds some interesting new features.

The digital sound generation impresses with sounds created using binaural sampling technology from the two concert grand pianos, the Yamaha CFX and the Bösendorfer Imperial. Thanks to Virtual Resonance Modelling, these grand pianos sound astonishingly authentic down to the finest nuances, which, combined with the keyboard, makes playing a real pleasure. In addition to the two concert grand pianos , the CLP-885 provides access to a total of 53 sounds, as well as 480 XG sounds and 14 drum/SFX kits! The high polyphony of 256 voices is more than sufficient to ensure that no lingering note is lost, even when playing at a faster tempo. To customise the sounds to your personal taste, there are seven reverb types, three chorus variants and twelve insert effects. The two psychoacoustic functions, Intelligent Acoustic Control and Stereophonic Optimizer, add that extra touch to the sound when required.
The handy Smart Pianist app offers all smartphone and tablet owners with iOS or Android operating systems an even wider range of features and, above all, even greater ease of use.
Last but not least, the app offers detailed adjustment options which, on a purely mechanical piano, can only be altered by the instrument maker at the factory or a piano tuner.
Keyboard players who write their own songs will appreciate the 16-track recording function in MIDI format. There is sufficient storage space for 250 songs. Audio recording is also no problem with the CLP-885; the instrument saves audio files in WAV format, with a length of up to 80 minutes, onto a separately available USB drive. Naturally, the CLP-885 is equipped with Dual, Layer and Split modes for the keyboard. This allows you to distribute and layer two different sounds across the entire keyboard, whether you want to combine an organ sound with a piano sound and strings for the bass part.
The speakers fitted in the CLP-885 also benefit from our many years of experience in the field of acoustic pianos and the development of high-quality speakers. Separate speakers for different frequency ranges produce a clear sound with depth. A total of six Spruce Cone speakers are fitted, delivering an output of 2 x 45 W + 30 W + 40 W. By incorporating digital control via Grand Acoustic Imaging with 3D audio, Yamaha has succeeded in reproducing the sound atmosphere of a concert grand piano in captivating detail.
