Yamaha Recording Custom Snare 14"x5,5", Steel

Developed in close collaboration with drumming legend Steve Gadd, Yamaha has revived one of its most iconic professional drum series. The newly redesigned Recording Custom drums are optimized for studio use, offering professional-level performance, sound quality, and versatility.

Developed in collaboration with drumming legend Steve Gadd, Yamaha’s six new metal snares are designed to complement the Recording Custom drum line-up perfectly. Crafted from steel, brass, and aluminum with meticulous attention to detail, these snares add unprecedented clarity and definition to the overall kit sound, making them ideal for professional studio work. The Recording Custom snares deliver crisp, clear, and exceptionally pure tones, both in the studio and live, enhancing the kit’s full tonal range.

Individual carpet

The three 14" x 5.5" models include multiple snare carpets, allowing drummers to achieve the perfect sound for any situation. For a full, warm attack, the pre-installed 20-spiral carpet is recommended. Another highlight is the 14-spiral carpet, used by Steve Gadd himself: with four spirals removed in the center, it produces a crisp sound with natural “cut-off.” A precision 45° shell bearing edge ensures ideal head contact and long-lasting tuning.

Following extensive refinements and input from Steve Gadd, Yamaha’s new Recording Custom snares offer groundbreaking quality. The sound is more open and expressive than ever, with outstanding articulation and performance. Premium hardware, including Q-Type lift-off mechanisms and Dyna Hoops, provides reliable, robust handling for the highest level of professional use.

For the past 3 years I've been meeting with the Research and Development guys at Yamaha with the aim of bringing the Recording Custom Series to date. I told Yamaha what I thought throughout the process, the result is that everything is a step up. They still feel like the Recording Custom, when you take them out or the box they don't feel new, they feel comfortable and I think that's good. My goal was to have a simple snare Drum design that could respond to a wide range or tuning. I think we did a great job, the new Recording Customs sound great and I think you'll like them'.
