The Yamaha Revstar RS502 BLG Billet Green Electric Guitar features a body manufactured with a maple top and a mahogany body housing a VP5 and a P-90 pickup , delivering precise and articulate tones that easily span across a multitude of genres.
The RS502T represents the purest expression of the Revstar design concept. Balanced perfectly on the point where familiarity and uniqueness coincide, the RS502 is everything you hope it’ll be, with custom-built hardware, the unique Revstar shape, and a tone that inspires.
Drawing inspiration from London and Tokyo’s vintage street-racing motorbikes, Japan’s heritage of engineering excellence and the 50-year legacy of Yamaha guitar craftsmanship, every detail of each Revstar model has been carefully engineered to bring out the unique personality of each guitar in the line-up. From the curves and contours of the ground-up body design to the distinctive colours and finishes and custom-wound pickups that perfectly match the guitar’s character, the Revstar collection comprises a diverse line-up of instruments as unique as the guitarists who play them.
I've been playing a Strat for nearly 20 years and I wanted something with a little bit more bite without breaking the bank.
I was looking for a vintage vibe instrument that was able to produce some good blues/rock sounds. I stumbled upon the Revstar range, and this guitar caught my eye. It is reasonably priced, has P90 pickups, and the design and looks are just great!
So I went for the billet green model and have been playing it for about two months now. I think I'm ready to give a fair review.
First off I had to take it to a guitar tech to lower the string height at the nut. It was too high and notes on the first few frets sounded sharp. Not sure if this is a common thing or not, just take it into account. After the setup it played much better.
In my opinion, the biggest issue with this model is the bridge design. The saddles rattle a lot, some notes just fade away pretty quickly due to the energy being dissipated by the saddle vibration instead of going to the body through the bridge. In my case, the 3rd string around the 12th fret is especially bad. I'm seriously considering upgrading the bridge to a TonePros used in the more expensive Revstars.
As bad as that sounds though, the issue has not kept me from enjoying ths guitar a LOT. The playability is great, the pickups sound awesome, and it has that vintage-meets-modern look that will make you stare at it whenever you're not playing it!
Overall I'm very happy with this guitar.
Play on! :)
