The Blackstar St. James 50 6L6 Combo is an innovative tube amplifier for electric guitar, combining a lightweight design of just 12.8 kg with extensive features for stage and studio use. Its innovative circuit merges classic tube technology with a modern switching power supply, delivering a wide range of tones from glassy vintage cleans to modern high-gain distortion. Additional features include power amp output reduction, a Celestion Zephyr speaker for full-bodied sound, integrated Reactive Load and Cab Rig speaker simulation for silent recording or stage performance, as well as reverb, an FX loop, and a built-in USB audio interface.

Equipped with a two-channel ECC83 preamp, the St. James 50 6L6 Combo is a versatile all-rounder for nearly any style. Channel I is inspired by ’60s Californian amps, delivering glassy cleans with excellent effect pedal compatibility, while Channel II offers modern high-gain voicing for juicy distortion and tight tones suited for rock and metal. A voicing switch on Channel II provides a slightly looser tone character, and a 3-band EQ allows precise tone shaping. The amp also includes a harmonically tuned reverb for added depth.

The St. James 50 6L6 uses two 6L6 tubes in the power section, delivering 50 watts with a round, American-style sound, providing ample volume for rehearsals and smaller gigs. The SAG mode adds natural compression and a softer feel. For home use, the output can be reduced to just 2 watts. The specially developed Celestion G12Z-70 Zephyr speaker ensures powerful sound, perfectly matched to the amp, while contributing to its lightweight design.
Reactive load and speaker simulation
For silent recording or quiet stage setups, the St. James 50 6L6 features a Reactive Load resistor and high-quality speaker simulation. The Reactive Load replicates the complex interaction between the power amp and a speaker’s voice coil, while the Blackstar Cab Rig Speaker Sim with powerful DSP provides detailed and natural sound when used via the balanced XLR output, line out, or integrated USB audio interface.
