The Gibson SG Standard ’61 Faded draws on the early SG specifications of the 1960s and combines this legendary model with Gibson’s highest standards of quality. The solid mahogany body features the classic double-cutaway shape with the deeply contoured lines of the early models, whilst the faded nitrocellulose finish gives it a matt appearance. The mahogany neck, with its slim SlimTaper profile, is paired with a bound rosewood fingerboard featuring 22 medium-jumbo frets and classic trapezoid inlays. In particular, the ergonomic design of the SG Standard ’61 captures the timeless playing feel of this legendary model and delivers everything you need for a rich sound, across genres from blues to rock!
Two 60s Burstbucker humbuckers with Alnico-5 magnets and historically inspired asymmetrically wound coils deliver the classic SG sound. The pickups produce an open tone with a clear attack and offer plenty of headroom in the treble range, particularly at higher drive levels. Two volume and two tone controls, together with hand-wired electronics featuring Orange Drop capacitors, enable the classic SG tone control with separate volume control for both pickups.
The hardware, too, is closely modelled on the historical original. An ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge works in conjunction with an aluminium stopbar tailpiece, whilst Vintage Deluxe tuners with Keystone wings and a Graph-Tech nut ensure reliable tuning. The small, five-slot teardrop pickguard is deliberately different from the later large ‘Batwing’ pickguard and emphasises the early 60s aesthetic. A Gibson hard-shell case is included.
