The Mesa Boogie California Tweed 2:20 Head with its iconic vintage design delivers the unique tube sound of the 1960s.
Mesa Boogie California Tweed 2:20 Head in vintage style with two 6L6 tubes and 20 watts of power amplifier output
The Mesa Boogie California Tweed 2:20 Head is an electric guitar head that is characterized by simplicity and an organic sound. The amp is based on the tried-and-tested Tweed circuit from the 1960s and features two 6V6 tubes in the output stage, while the Preamp is powered by five 12AX7 and one 12AT7 tube. The California Tweed emphasizes a simple design, but still sets standards in terms of user-friendliness and comfort. In addition to a classic vintage look, the front of the California Tweed consists of just two inputs (low/normal), a gain control, a conventional 3-band EQ for treble, mid and bass as well as a presence control, mastervolume and the MultiWatt control for a power reduction from 20 watts to 10 or 1 watt. The rear of the guitar amplifier also features three speaker connections (2x 4 Ohm, 1x 8 Ohm), a reverb control with associated footswitch input and an effects loop.
Simple construction, full tube heat in the output
Despite its simple design, the Mesa Boogie Head relies on a full tube sound, which consists of five 12AX7 tubes and one 12AT7 tube in the preamp stage , while the power amp draws its power from two 6V6 tubes. In total, the amp delivers an output of 20 watts - the power of the top section can be adjusted down to 10 watts or 1 watt using the multi-watt control. While the amp runs in 20 watt mode via a 2x6V6 class A/B pentode and in 10 watt mode via a 2x6V6 class A/B triode with fixed bias voltage, the 1 watt mode works via a 1x6V6 pentode with cathode bias voltage - the Mesa Amp thus benefits from a seamlessly consistent sound quality, despite the power reduction. The California Tweed 2:20 Head lives from a natural tube warmth and revives the classic vintage tube sound of the 1960s.

Dense clean sound, warm Overdrive and a friend for pedals
The Mesa Boogie California Tweed 2:20 Head has a channel that is equipped with both a low input (clean) and a normal input (clean to overdrive). In addition to a natural tube sound for a dense clean tone and warmoverdrive tone, the guitar amplifier also impresses when it comes to external effects: the buffered effects loop ensures a clean integration of external effects pedals, which means seamless switching works perfectly.
