Gibson Murphy Lab 1959 Les Paul Standard Sunrise Teaburst Ultra Light Aged

As a tribute to the legendary design of the Les Paul of the year 1959, the Gibson Custom Shop offers in collaboration with the ageing specialists of the Murphy Lab an extremely successful recreation of the archetype. From the choice of wood to the hand-wired electronics to the texture of the finish and hardware, the Gibson 1959 Les Paul Standard Sunrise Teaburst Ultra Light Aged truly offers everything a classic '59 Les Paul should.

Flamed maple top and mahogany neck with long neck base

The basis of the Gibson 1959 Les Paul Standard Sunrise Teaburst Ultra Light Aged is its basic construction of selected tonewoods, as they were already used in the late fifties. Accordingly, the body is made of a solid piece of mahogany and is finished with a two-piece flamed maple top with a flame figure. Naturally, the formula of a good Fifties Les Paul should not be without the glued Long Neck Tenon of the mahogany neck, which is glued all the way down to the neck pickup. 

Gibson Custom Bucker with Paper-in-Oil Caps

For worthy sounds of the legendary PAF humbucker, Gibson relies on successful replicas of the coveted double coils with two Custom Bucker humbuckers. Hand-wound in the Gibson Custom Shop, the pickups are fitted with Alnico III magnets for a warm and vocal sound character and have non-waxed coils, which clearly preserves the treble content in the signal. The electronics wiring is also completely hand-wired and features original components of the golden LP era with CTS potentiometers for volume and tone as well as oil-paper capacitors.

Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged Treatment

Created by ageing legend Tom Murphy, the Murphy Lab employs a number of experts who analyze in detail the lacquer finish and ageing process of hardware from original instruments and authentically recreate them as part of the 1959 Les Paul Standard Sunrise Teaburst Ultra Light Aged. The Ultra Light Aged Treatment replicates Murphy Lab's lightest ageing process and simulates the few signs of wear and tear on an amazingly well-maintained instrument that shows only a few age-related traces in the form of nitro lacquer cracks and a slight hardware ageing. The composition of the nitro varnish was also taken into account here so that the instrument can continue to develop tasteful ageing over time.
