The Electro Harmonix Lizard King is an analogue octave fuzz that is based on the circuit concept of the EHX x JHS Lizard Queen and has been specifically optimized for E-Bass and other low-end signal sources. As a fixed-gain fuzz, the Lizard King reacts dynamically to the input signal so that the degree of distortion can be effectively controlled via the instrument's volume pot - from slightly distorted, transparent overdrive textures to aggressive fuzz sounds with a pronounced octave component. At the heart of the further development is the BLEND control, which allows the ratio between the clean and fuzz signal to be mixed continuously, thereby retaining the attack, foundation and low-end, while the fuzz component can be specifically integrated into the Mix or deliberately placed in the foreground. The TONE control works as a low-pass filter to control the treble, while the OCTAVE control adds the characteristic retro octave sound in a controlled manner. The EQ is complemented by the SUN/SHADOW switch, which further shapes the interplay between the clean and fuzz signals: In the SUN position, the octave fuzz is given a stronger midrange emphasis and the clean component more treble and bass, while SHADOW delivers a tighter fuzz character with an unchanged clean signal. With true bypass, compact design and low power consumption, the EHX Lizard King is equally suitable for pedalboards in live and studio use where an assertive, controllable octave fuzz is required.
