As a true jazz box, the Fame SE Series Big Boy Orange offers the sound, look and feel of traditional arch-top guitars. Made from classic ingredients and built to a tried and tested recipe, the hollow-body electric guitar offers a voluminous body that adds airy, warm, semi-resonant character to the sound of two Tron-style humbuckers with versatile circuitry played on the amplifier and is up for all kinds of fun from jazz to blues to hotter rockabilly rock sounds. Furthermore, the Fame SE Series Big Boy features stylish Grover tuners and a Bigsby-style vibrato in a uniform gold finish.
The body wood of the Fame SE Series Big Boy OR Orange is basswood, which provides best resonance characteristics in tried and tested laminate construction. Thanks to the tone bar installed under the bridge, the hollow-body remains free of feedback at slightly higher gain settings, making it feel right at home even in the tonal realms of typical blues crunch. In addition, the top has been given a flamed maple veneer, whose three-dimensional flame creates an intriguing look.
The two Fame Tron-style humbuckers in the neck and bridge position are used to transform the sound of the amplifier. The double coils with moderate winding and Alnico magnets conjure up a mild vintage output with extremely distinctive mid-range warmth, in order to be able to assert themselves appropriately in the band context at any time. Both pickups are switched via two 3-way switches as well as two volume controls and an additional treble control.
The functional and visually appealing hardware equipment of the Fame SE Series Big Boy Orange consists of a versatile adjustable Tune-o-Matic bridge with rosewood base and an additional Bigsby-style vibrato for shimmering pitch modulations, while six Grover tuners on the headstock ensure absolute tuning stability. All hardware parts have a premium, uniform gold finish.
Fame Big Boy OrangeI needed a Gretsch style hollow body guitar for a specific sound required for a project.
The Fame Bigboy SE, looks the part from a distance, and certainly has the right sound.
The build quality isn’t great; I had to clean up the fretboard (sharp metal inlays cut my fingers), and the volume pots are next to useless.
The guitar should be fine for the project tour, but is unlikely to survive much longer than that.
The guitar is visually perfect (mine is White). Upon playing, a few minor faults appeared.
1. Frets - several had rough edges - simple file dressing was all that was necessary
2. Tuning - Bigsby tremolos are notorious for losing tune and this is no exception. I have ordered a roller bridge and Gretch tuners in the hope it will fix the problem. I will also lubricate the Bigsby when installing the new parts . Even with the extra parts cost, the guitar is about the same price as the Harley Benson equivalent. Overall, great value for money and will be a super guitar when fully updated.
Nice guitar for the price looks good, good sound from pickups tremelo arm a bit dodgy but most bigsbys are any way treat it gentle seems to be the answer a lot of mates are impressed with how well it looks and for the price well a really good guitar
