For the reproduction of what is probably the most successful junior model, the Gibson Custom Shop naturally relies on historically accurate production methods and materials which, together with the vintage patina of the VOS finish, convey the feeling of an original from the period. A Gibson Custom P-90 single coil on the bridge and hand-wired electrics also promise an unadulterated sound with immediate response and juicy mid-range pressure. Of course, authentic Fifties-style hardware completes the Gibson 1958 Les Paul Junior Double Cut Reissue VOS Cherry Red.
The construction of the 1958 Les Paul Junior Double Cut Reissue in the Custom Shop naturally uses historically accurate materials and methods to get as close as possible to the look and feel of a vintage original. The LP Junior Double Cut conceals a solid mahogany body and a glued mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard under a wafer-thin nitro finish with an authentic patina for free sound development. The use of the coveted "long neck tenon" and glas-hard hide-glues promises a powerful and sustain-rich sound. Last but not least, the pleasantly powerful "'50s Rounded Medium C" profile creates the best conditions for the comfortable realisation of classic blues and rock playing techniques.
The pickup chosen by the Gibson Custom Shop for the '58 LP Junior Double Cut is a Custom Dog-Ear P-90 single coil pickup, whose black cap is screwed to the body via the characteristic "dog ears". Thanks to the design, which is clearly based on the historical models, the single coil placed on the bridge impresses with an authentic vintage sound that combines direct dynamic behaviour with a strongly represented mid-range spectrum and is therefore ideal for the clean and distorted sounds of classic blues and rock styles. In addition, volume and tone controls in the form of high-quality CTS Audio taper pots and an authentic paper-in-oil capacitor allow the tone colour to be adjusted.
Naturally, the Gibson Custom Shop completes the 1958 Les Paul Junior Double Cut Reissue VOS Cherry Red electric guitar with the authentic hardware of the 1950s. The classic wraparound bridge holds the strings on the body and its uncompromisingly straightforward design contributes significantly to the direct sound character. Two grub screws on the back of the bridge also allow a clean intonation to be set. A nylon saddle on the traditionally designed headstock guides the strings to the reliable and tuning-stable Kluson White Button tuners.
