Modified Flying V design
Departing from the traditional Gibson Flying V blueprint, the Dave Mustaine Flying V EXP uses an extended 25.5-inch (648 mm) scale length for a particularly tight and articulate response. The classic 3+3 headstock has been replaced with the distinctive “hockey stick” headstock seen on Gibson designs from the 1980s. An ebony fingerboard with a compound radius and 24 medium-jumbo frets delivers exceptional playability across the entire neck.
Seymour Duncan Thrash Factor Set
For tone, the Gibson Dave Mustaine Flying V EXP is equipped with a USA-wound Seymour Duncan Thrash Factor humbucker set, developed specifically to capture Dave’s signature sound. The set is based on the SH-4 JB and SH-1n ’59 humbuckers used on the landmark Rust in Peace album, but with added low-end punch and more aggressive treble in the bridge position. Both pickups are wired with the Custom Dave Mustaine setup, featuring independent volume controls for each pickup and a master tone control.
Stage-ready hardware outfit
Everything about the Gibson Dave Mustaine Flying V EXP is ready for the stage. The classic Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece maximize resonance transfer to the mahogany body, while Jim Dunlop Straplocks keep your strap secure during high-energy performances. On the headstock, six Grover Mini Rotomatics with kidney buttons ensure rock-solid tuning stability and smooth adjustments.
