The Gibson Mick Ronson 1968 Les Paul Custom Collector's Edition at a glance
With the Gibson Mick Ronson 1968 Les Paul Custom Collector's Edition, the Nashville, Tennessee-based Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee pays fitting tribute to a true legend. The British guitarist was not only responsible for the guitar parts on numerous works from David Bowie's discography, but also appeared as a talented producer, arranger and songwriter for greats such as Bob Dylan, Roger Daltrey, Morrissey and Van Morrison. Reason enough to pay homage to the exceptional talent who died far too early with a detailed replica of his legendary Les Paul Custom.
Les Paul Custom made of mahogany and maple
Just like his original '68 LP, the Gibson Mick Ronson 1968 Les Paul Custom consists of a solid mahogany body and a two-piece plain maple cap. While the top has a transparent Antique Natural look, the back of the body has a black Ebony finish to match the original, which was added by aging legend Tom Murphy and an authentic aging pattern from Mick's guitar. The Authentic '68 Medium C Shape neck is also made from solid mahogany and features a 22-fret ebony fingerboard in classic LPC style.
Gibson '68 Custom humbucker & Black Cat Caps
In order to give the Mick Ronson Signature its authentic voice, the Gibson Custom Shop relies on two historically correct Gibson '68 Custom humbuckers. The attention to detail ranges from the gold and nickel slug and screw coils to the hand-wired wiring with 'Black Cat' capacitors and the different amber and witch hat knobs on the volume and tone controls, just as they were used on Mick's guitar. Both pickups are unwaxed and produce the same aggressive sound that became Mick Ronson's trademark.
