The Gibson Theodore Standard Vintage Cherry electric guitar at a glance

Following the extremely successful Custom Shop limited run in 2022, the renowned guitar maker from Nashville, Tennessee now presents the Gibson Theodore Standard Vintage Cherry – a series-produced version of the iconic design as part of the Gibson USA lineup. The unconventional body shape and the guitar’s name are based on a 1957 sketch by then-Gibson President Ted McCarty, which remained in the archives for over 65 years before finally being brought to life. As a genuine Gibson USA electric guitar, the Theodore Standard comes with a matching hardshell case.

Theodore Body & Slim Taper Neck

A defining feature of the Theodore is its two wide Florentine cutaways, which provide generous access above and below the neck joint. This makes playing in the highest positions of the 22-fret rosewood fingerboard especially effortless. The mahogany neck features the iconic Slim Taper profile, which offers a fast and familiar feel for Gibson players and contributes to the classic silhouette alongside the distinctive Scimitar-style headstock.

Gibson '57 Classic Humbucker

Equipped with a pair of Gibson '57 Classic humbuckers, the Theodore Standard delivers a versatile tonal palette rooted in the coveted P.A.F. sound. The neck-position pickup delivers warm, mid-rich tones perfect for expressive chords and vocal lead lines, while the '57 Classic Plus in the bridge position – wound slightly hotter – provides enhanced output and a tighter, more focused tone ideal for punchy rhythm playing. The electronics are fully hand-wired and feature premium components including Orange Drop capacitors, which provide smooth treble roll-off and retain clarity at any volume setting.
