With the Godin A5 Ultra Fretless SA Natural Semi-Gloss, the Canadian company is sending an extremely flexible semi-acoustic bass with five strings into the race, which not only offers first-class electric bass and acoustic sounds, but also knows how to produce organic-sounding acoustic sounds.
At the heart of the A5 Ultra Fretless SA Bass from Godin is a basswood body with generous resonance chambers and a solid spruce top, which gives the sound a sonorous acoustic timbre and lively dynamics. The bolt-on maple neck impresses with its extremely manoeuvrable playing characteristics over the bass strings, which vibrate with a classic long scale scale, while the fretless fingerboard guarantees a singing fretless sound with an indulgent sound development. The thumb rest also promises a high level of playing comfort.
In addition to the Lace Sensor low-profile bass pickup, which delivers crisp electric bass sounds from the bass amplifier, the Godin A5 Ultra Fretless is equipped with an RMC piezo pickup system for lively acoustic sounds with a double bass character. While the volume and tone controls on the side provide the usual control over the magnetic pickup, the piezo has an active preamp that can be controlled via a separate side cockpit. The individual frequency bands of the 3-band EQ can be controlled here, and there is also an additional saturation control and a fat switch for additional mid-range power.
