Virtual Analog Synthesizer
The compact SKULPTsynth SE from Modal Electronics is a four-voice polyphonic digital desktop synthesizer with virtual analog synthesis. A total of eight oscillators draw from a pool of mixable waveforms. For oscillator modulation FM, PWM and ring modulation are provided. Due to the total of 32 oscillators, massive unison sounds and pithy chords belong to the repertoire as well as classic mono sounds and layered sounds. The elaborately generated basic sound is processed by a multimode morphing filter, which can blend continuously from lowpass to bandpass to highpass. The final touches are added by a distortion and a clock-syncable delay.
Modulation & Memory
Three envelopes, two LFOs that can even reach audio data and a modulation matrix with eight entries that links eight sources and 37 destinations leave nothing to be desired in terms of routing and modulation. In addition, the SKULPTsynth SE has a 256-step real-time sequencer that can record up to four parameters in addition to notes. The instrument can be conveniently edited via iOS, OS X, Win7 (and higher) and Android 6 (and higher) using the free MODALAPP. The app also gives you access to other modulation sources such as velocity, Aftertouch and modwheel. The 128 memory locations can also be managed with this app, naturally they can be called up on the device itself. If the four lushly equipped voices of the synthesizer are not enough, you can connect up to four SKULPTsynth SE to get a powerful polysynth with up to 16 voices.
